Notes

When it comes to saying who is who in Ghanaian Traditional Music - I mean tunes such as Adowa, Ashewa, Agbass, Kenka etc... choice is rather difficult since one only has the inadequate sample of the few who have managed to wax some of their songs to choose from.

One of such few traditional musicians who has managed to wax his songs is Kojo Mireku. In his efforts to satisfy Ghanaians crave for traditional songs and make available to the young generation some of our past folk songs Mr. D.K. Nyarko - the producer - found Kojo Mireku a suitable "Ashewa" singer to invite to the studios of UAC and UTC to achieve his goals in early 1956. Before that year, Kojo Mireku had been performing actively with his group at durbars and funeral gatherings especially in the Kwahu traditional area.

In this, his premier album, Kojo is at his best! He sings about lovers in a lively manner to touch ones very soul. His melodious voice and guitar work in his songs about death and parting time are sure comforts for the grieved and the lonely.

One would in no doubt be convinced of Kojo's talents in the traditional "Ashewa" music if one shares a few moments with Kojo in his album.
His songs mean a lot to your life!

Sweet Jake
