"This performance dates from 1932. If you can handle all that you will enjoy a treasure in which authenticity of style and comedic sparkle carry the day. Ernesto Badini in the title role is the embodiment of aging folly: pompous and deluded with malice aforethought. His exchanges with Poli as Malatesta are funny but not exaggerated;these are twwo fine singing actors. The only weak link in the cast is Saraceni, shrill of voice although adequate. But the real reason for having this set is the incomparable and irreplaceable Tito Schipa. Suavity of tone, matchless legato and perfect diction are the qualities that make him the tenore di grazia without equal. Add to that the sense of fun he shares with the rest of the cast and you have an opera performance that beats all the competition. If you want the best, this is the Pasquale to have." Basil De Pinto.
