The Bhairavi mode, as well as the Bhairav mode, are not unknown in the West: they are often heard in music influenced by gypsy music: flamenco, arabo-andalusian music. This is because the three important gypsy migrations originated from Rajasthan and that the people of gypsies there, the Lohar Pasa, are devotees of Lord Bhairav. A lot of their songs follow raga Bhairavi or raga Bhairav.
