Kicking Television is a rock band based in Montreal whose sound has been compared to MC5, Pixies, Modest Mouse, The Fall and Vox Pop. In tune with the band's home neighborhood of Verdun, Kicking Television's music is presented without artifice or ill-fitting decorum: it is raw, passionate, at times melancholy, yet also unerringly hopeful. Kicking Television is defined by its live performances - shows are packed with infectious, explosive energy, and an unhinged sense of urgency. Lead singer Jason Lopes’ frenetic movements often take him into the crowd, flailing away, and simply dancing his ass off. Guitarists Terry Boisvert's and Mitch Davies’ interplay on guitar weaves a tapestry that is at once fervent and dynamic, yet melodic and tuneful. Members of the rhythm section, composed of Desmond Joanes on bass and Rob de Koninck on drums, are wont to outwit each other with improvised breaks, all the while keeping the whole thing whip-tight. On May 1st 2008, Kicking Television released their debut EP, Muscles Shape Bones, recorded at Dirt Studios on Analog tape. The EP was recorded in 19 hours, capturing the intensity of the band’s live performances.
