Robert Clark "Bob" Seger was one of the most popular American rock musicians during the 1970s and 80s, and remains an influential performer to this date.

Seger first joined a local Detroit rock band at age fifteen, and penned his first song by his sixteenth birthday! By 1968, he had managed to deliver five top ten singles in the Detroit music scene charts, and the title song of the album "Ramblin 'Gamblin' Man" reached number 17 nationally. In Detroit, he sold more records during his prime than the Beatles, while maintaining a vigorous live performance schedule by appearing at least three nights a week in local Michigan bars and clubs. In 1976, Seger saw his international breakthrough with his albums "Live Bullet" and "Night Moves" which were massive successes, selling platinum in the USA, and many other countries. Bob Seger continued his success with seven more top-ten platinum albums in the following twenty years.

On May 28th 2011, Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder proclaimed this date as "Bob Seger Day" in recognition of his more than 50 years of sharing his celebrated musical talents with his leagues of fans around the world.
