Vibe Aeon’s new single “Sub Sessions” represents a snapshot of one artists push toward a newer vision for the post dub step genre. Borrowing heavily from deep dub , and funk “Sub Sessions” represents Vibe’s push deeper into asymmetrical sub bass, funk riffs, off the cuff hip-hop like sampling, and larger more organic textures throughout the album. Vibe’s gravitation toward: nu school synth elements, modulated arpeggiations, and emphasis on the second drop instead of the first all represent his stylistic choices. Hammond B3 funk riffs, heavy, funky bass lines, atmospheric backgrounds, rhythmically modulated bells, and vocoder/hardcore synth leads are also all present in the album. Overall, it seems that Vibe Aeon is pushing for a larger integration of new styles into the genre especially funk, and deeper sub bass. Vibe hopes to champion the new sound of funk step in the future, and this album represents his first attempt with the darker deeper side of the genre.
